Presidents Message:

Changes for OSA are underway:
The questionnaire enclosed is being sent to all members to find out what you want OSA to be. These same questions will be asked of all the Board members to see what their vision is for OSA. Next month, a Saturday Board retreat will be held at OSA. The GOALS are:
--Review questionnaires returned --Make plans for a stronger OSA --Start an ACTION PLAN to address: Daily needs of the society Care of the building and grounds
-- both short and long term issues Increase membership. Increase revenues.
--Increase member participation
Accountability.
---Marketing, and Others, that are yet unknown to me!
THIS is where you come in with your questionnaire answers & new ideas. You will be informed of decisions made by your Board of Directors. Some of these changes will need your vote to implement such as: The Bylaws Committee is studying the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws to see if changes are in order. Any recommended changes will need to be voted on. A Finance Committee has been appointed to implement tracking of our income and expenditures. Each Board member has responsibilities for the work of the committee assigned to them. We’re Moving Forward.

President

ART NEWS

2004 ROSE ART - "Discover the Wonders"!

Be sure to look over the prospectus for the Rose Art Show, included in this issue of the Brushmarks. It will tell you all
you need to know to submit work for this sanctioned Rose Festival event. The 2004 Rose Art Show is just around the corner! Plan to enter at least onepainting; of a rose or of the festival theme, "Discover the Wonders". Prizes, ribbons, a reception and other surprises await the winners and all who attend. word. The full color flyers and a sign-up sheet, as we want to tract distribution, are available in the gallery.

John Reece will be demonstrating “Paint from what is in your head, rather than photos”. John Reece is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. Growing up there,
his family encouraged his drawing and painting from childhood. His undergraduate degree is in design. Art took a backseat to a career with Proctor and Gamble, but on retirement he returned to his original interest and obtained an MA in Art History from the University of Cincinnati. Since coming to Portland, John has focused on painting, working in watercolor, acrylic and oil. John is on the Board of OSA and has studio space in our building. He is also a member of Oregon Watercolor Society.

Night Meeting:

Thursday, April 15, doors open at 6, meeting begins at 8 p.m.
Jim Smith, will be demonstrating "Miniature Painting". Jim is a long time member of OSA, and returns for another demo of his unique miniature work. Jim has exhibited at numerous galleries on the coast as well as in the Portland area. Jim is currently showing his miniatures at the Lawrence Gallery and the International Miniature Show in Pennsylvania. A second generation artist, Jim owned and operated the Paint'n Place with his mother, the late Stella Dralle. Smith firmly believes that success in art is a matter of tenacity rather than purely talent. He has taught art classes locally and at the coast for 32 years. Jim's outstanding art pieces can be found in such renowned places as the Smithsonian Art Gallery in Washington D.C.

The Critique Group:
6:30 p.m. preceding the Thursday night meeting.

Bring up to three paintings and join us in our critique session. If you do not have any paintings to present this month, please still come and take part in the discussion. This is a great learning opportunity.
