Renewing Members

Active versus Associate Membership . . . Artists and Photographers

If you have been an Associate Member for three months or more, you may wish to apply for Active Membership. Three works of art, completed within the last two years may be submitted. Your three entries will be judged for the artistic qualities necessary for active membership by a jury of three Board of Directors at a regular Board Meeting. Acceptance as an Active member entitles you to full gallery exhibition privileges. Works must be framed and ready to hang. Contact our Membership Chair, Diane Burns, at (503) 510-6868 for jurying information.

Active Membership is now open to photographers as well as artists. Submission of photographic work follows the same procedure as art work outlined above. Membership in both categories does not add to Active Member dues. A $10 jurying charge is the only additional cost for two category membership.

Active Membership $45

About Our Organization

OSA was founded in 1927 by a group of dedicated artists who banded together to support each other in the study of the visual arts. Our founders were some of the most illustrious artists of Portland. They worked to establish a society to foster mutual respect for one another and their art.

Meetings

General meetings for all members are held twice a month. The First Thursday meeting is a Critique at 6 pm and a Demo at 7 pm, proceeded by brief general society announcements. The Second Thursday meeting is a Demo at 11 am, light luncheon at 12, and Board of Directors meeting at 1 pm.

Newsletter

Your copy of the Brushmarks, OSA's newsletter, will be emailed to you each month. Special events and activities are held throughout the year and will be posted in the newsletter and on the website. Please keep the office staff informed of changes in your name or address.

Classes

OSA offers classes and workshops in a variety of media. The Brushmarks will have the schedule and registration information.

Gallery Shows

As an Associate Member you will be invited to exhibit your artwork several times a year. Please consult the Gallery Chairman for framing advice before you enter the shows.

As an Active Member you will be entitled to full gallery exhibition privileges. There is an additional $10. fee for Active Member status. Active Membership for Artists and Photographers can be achieved by: 1. Being an Associate Member for a minimum of three months. 2. Contacting the Membership Chair for a jurying appointment to be held at a Board of Directors meeting day. 3. Providing three paintings/photos, framed and ready to hang, to the Board of Directors Jury Committee, on the Board Meeting day.

Dues

The annual dues for Members of the Society are due on the third Thursday of January of each year and are payable on or before that date. Dues paid by new members joining the Society, or those who have become Active members, during the months of September, October, November or December, shall cover the following fiscal year as well. Additional dues that are required for Active membership must accompany the application and artworks submitted for jurying for Active membership. Checks should be made out to the Oregon Society of Artists and directed to the OSA Treasurer.

Volunteering

OSA is a non-profit, self-supporting organization. We are proud to own our facility free and clear, thanks to the generosity and hard work of OSA members since 1927! The bulk of the "housekeeping", "yard work" and repairs are done by volunteers. Committees, and Board of Directors keep the organization running smoothly. Everyone is expected to pitch in.

Officers, Board of Directors, Committees

A complete list of current OSA Officers, Board Members, and Committee Chairs can be found in the Brushmarks, and on the Board of Directors page. Please feel free to contact them if you need information, have suggestions or wish to offer your help.
