OSA Membership

New and Renewing Members

Welcome to the Oregon Society of Artists!  We are delighted  that you are interested in joining our organization.

We have two types of membership available: Associate (non-juried) and Active (juried)

Initial application is as an Associate member and you are entitled to take part in all OSA activities, meetings and social functions.  As an Associate member, you are invited to exhibit your artwork several times a year.  Three works of art, completed within the last two years may be submitted.  Complete details of upcoming shows will be in the Brushmarks, and on the events page. If this is to be your first exhibition or if you need framing advice, the Gallery Chairman will be glad to be of assistance.

Dues

The annual dues for Members of the Society are due on the third Thursday of January of each year and are payable on or before that date. Dues paid by new members joining the Society, or those who have become Active members, during the months of September, October, November or December, shall cover the following fiscal year as well. Additional dues that are required for Active membership must accompany the application and artworks submitted for jurying for Active membership. Checks should be made out to the Oregon Society of Artists and directed to the OSA Treasurer.

Active Membership - $37 - RENEW ONLY

Associate Membership Dues - $30 - JOIN or Renew

Please NOTE: if you are NEW member, you also need to download a membership application. Either mail or email it to it to OSA.

Active versus Associate Membership . . . Artists and Photographers

If you have been an Associate Member for three months or more, you may wish to apply for Active Membership. Your three entries will be judged for the artistic qualities necessary for active membership by a jury of three Board of Directors. Acceptance as an Active member entitles you to full gallery exhibition privileges. You may apply for Active membership any time after three months of Associate membership by submitting three works for jurying. Jurying would then be done at a regular Board Meeting. Works must be framed and ready to hang. Contact the Membership Chair, Diane Burns, for jurying information.

Active Membership is now open to photographers as well as artists. Submission of photographic work follows the same procedure as art work outlined above. Membership in both categories does not add to Active Member dues. A $7.00 jurying charge is the only additional cost for two category membership

About Our Organization

The functions of OSA are governed by Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. Copies are available for your use and are kept in the library. You are encouraged to read and become familiar with them.

Meetings

General Meetings for all members are held each month on the second Thursday at 11:00 AM and on the third Thursday at 8:00 PM.

The OSA Board of Directors Meeting is held on the second Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM at OSA. Your suggestions play an important part in maintaining the strength and quality of your Society! You are encouraged to express your thoughts at the Board Meeting, either in person or in writing. Contact the President and ask that your business be put on the agenda or direct your written material to: OSA Board of Directors. The Board meeting follows the day meeting and an art demonstration program beginning at 11:00 AM and a potluck lunch at 12 noon for those who wish to participate.

The General Business Meeting is held on the third Thursday of each month at 8:00 PM at OSA. The agenda calls for the presentation of Society business and financial reports, officer and committee reports and announcements and other business from the floor. The meeting is preceded by an open critique meeting at 6:30 PM and is followed by a demonstration, lecture or entertainment and a social hour with refreshments. Your attendance is encouraged and your active participation in elections and decision making is expected!

Newsletter – “Brushmarks

Your copy of the Brushmarks will be mailed to you each month. This is the very heart of our communication system! Please read it. In it you will find information regarding OSA Business Meetings, regular and special sketch groups and classes, upcoming shows and special events as well as the names and telephone numbers of persons you can contact if you have questions of any kind. Your contribution of newsworthy items is welcome. E-mail submissions to oregonsa@gmail.com. Acceptance is based on suitability and available space. Deadline for news items is the second Thursday of each month. Please keep us informed of changes in your name or address by notifying Julie Kirby, our Office Administrator.

Classes, Educational Activities

You are welcome and encouraged to take part in any and all of the educational activities offered by OSA. Watch your Brushmarks for complete information. The media and subject matter offered varies according to the interests of the membership. Your input is crucial in planning for future programs and classes – so make your interests known! Your Board of Directors is anxious to help you with your ideas! Contact the Board if you would like to teach a workshop, lead a sketch group or give a demonstration or lecture.

Facilities, Maintenance

You now own an equal share in all the facilities belonging to OSA, and your share includes the responsibility for its proper use and maintenance. The OSA is a non-profit, self-supporting organization. We are proud to own all of our facilities free and clear, thanks to the generosity and hard work of OSA members since 1927! Funds for building maintenance and operation of the Society are acquired entirely from dues, class fees, contributions from members and an occasional fund raising activity. It is the delicate balance of donated time and monies collected that has kept us solvent and has kept us on our toes! We currently pay a minimum in professional service fees. The bulk of the “housekeeping”, “yard work” and repairs are being done by volunteers!

We must ask for renewed support from all OSA members in physically caring for the building and grounds if we are to continue with our current dues and class fee structure. Everyone is expected to pitch in! Contact the Grounds Chairman or the Building Supervisor and make your commitment equal to your abilities!

Special Events and Activities

Special events and activities are held throughout the year. Although attendance is not mandatory, they are planned with your participation and enjoyment in mind. Attend as many as you can and get to know the members of your Society! Watch your Brushmarks for notice of upcoming events.

Recruit New Members

You are welcome to sponsor other interested persons for OSA membership. Your sponsorship for an individual simply states that you feel the person’s artistic persuasions are compatible with the fundamentals of OSA and whose participation in the functions of OSA will be mutually beneficial. Application forms and membership information sheets are kept in the reception desk in the OSA Gallery.

Officers, Board, Committees

Watch your Brushmarks for a list of current OSA Officers, Members of the Board of Directors and Committee Chairmen. Please feel free to contact them if you need information, have suggestions or wish to offer your help! You are eligible to hold an elected or appointed office and you have an equal vote on all matters presented to the membership for a decision.
